Sun., July 25, 10-12 PM

Its been a while since I have updated this site. For that I apologize. I still have all the playlists, so I will get to filling in all the missed shows at some point. Meanwhile . . .
This week my friend Jeff joined me in the studio. We alternated song choices with the first being my selection. I have listed more information on my songs, but if Jeff gives me more on his choices, I will fill them out.
This alternating songs format presented some challenges. I usually try to create a show that flows, with sets that work together. This is an art and certainly not a science. It doesn't mean that songs in a set are necessarily similar. It just means that somehow they work together or reference each other. While I tried to follow Jeff's tunes with something that flowed, I think Jeff was often purposefully doing the opposite. That's fine; in the end it worked, and it was good to mix things up.

1. Homosexuals, "Collapsible You", Hyped to Death/Messthetics/Morphius Records, 2004 (new release): The long promised, three CD reissue of everything the Homosexuals put out along with many side projects by band members and previously unreleased tunes. Legendary UK diy that has long been mostly unavailable. I am still working my way through the three CDs, but they are truly impressive. I have owned the twenty year old, itself collectible, Homosexuals lp that reissued some of the original recordings, and that material appears here, but most of these CDs have never been put out except in extremely limited pressings. I highly recommend this reissue. It is also the first glass mastered CDs on Chuck Warner's Hyped to Death CDR reissue label.
2. Thermals, "No Culture Icons".
3. Dead Kennedys, "Kill the Poor", Cherry Red Records, 1980.
4. Ryan Adams, "To Be Young".

12. Comus, "Drip Drip", Get Back Records.
13. Chain Gang, "Son of Sam", Kapitalist Records, 1977.
14. Jim O'Rourke, "Ghost Ship in a Storm".
15. Ism, "I Think I Love You", S.I.N. Records, 1983: I had nothing that I thought went well with Jeff's last choice, so I decided to picked something that contrasted stridently. This New York hardcore cover of the Partridge Family song seemed like just the thing. Also, Jeff mentioned that his last song had his favorite album cover. Well, the cover on this Ism 7" is one of my favorites. To keep everything family friendly, I won't explain why.
